Cutting Edge Stencils Shares Black Stencil Ideas for Walls and Home Decor Accessories
Rise and shine, my stenciling color enthusiasts! Do you remember a couple of weeks ago when Cutting Edge Stencils had it’s cameo the new HGTV series, Power Broker? We were over the moon excited about seeing our very own Zamira Stencil on a hit cable network. Here’s what the room makeover looked like after Alice Chan worked her designer magic in case you missed it…
Stunning, right? I know we had to pick our jaws up off the ground after we saw it on air. The coolest part about this? Well, yes the stencil work is pretty awesome BUT so is the color. Black! In some cases it’s seen as adventurous, bold, and daring but in other spaces it’s cultured, elegant, and chic. We see the color black is synonymous with stenciled STYLE! Those are some of our favorite characteristics. So this got us thinking about some things. 1. How do Alice T. Chan over our house for an ultimate makeover? and 2. stenciling in black!
From ebony to soot to coal, black rooms are all the rage these days – and not only among teenagers filled with rage. We’ve noticed diyers and color enthusiasts are becoming more adventurous and taking the deep, dark plunge. Why? Well, it’s simple. Black might be bold but it’s a very versatile color to paint with. Don’t just listen to us, be inspired by the spaces below…
Let’s start small with black home decor accessories. Whether you’re stenciling a shade of white on black or black on white, you’re wall art is sure to make a bold statement. Our Chandelier Stencil is the perfect pattern choice for a decorative art piece. The wall art shown on the left was found on Etsy. To recreate this use our stencil with Benjamin Moore’s old prairie 2143-50 over jet black 2120-10. Or reverse the hues and stencil a small Tree Peony similar to what Kate from Kiss the Sky did on the right.
See that old desk in the corner that you’ve been thinking about stenciling? We’ve got the perfect piece of inspiration and it’s in a bold black hue! Vintage Revival Designer revived this dated item using Gabrielle Damask Stencil in a creamy shade of white over her black painted desk. To get this gorgeous look, try using Benjamin Moore’s black satin 2131-10 and then stenciling your pattern in snow white 2122-70.
Not ready to make the leap and stencil your walls black? How about some black frames to hang on your walls? Well after seeing the crafty idea from Delta Girl Frames on Etsy, you will be. Recreate her patterned frame look using our Craft stencils and various shades of black!
Are you feeling the appeal of stenciling black? We thought so! We said it before and we’ll say it again, painted black bedrooms are no longer for angry teenagers. Meet ToriAnn Marie, one of fab Pinterest fans and her stunning black and white bedroom. She painted a black accent wall and then stenciled the Marrakech Trellis design to add some patterned depth.
A black accent wall can also be more subtle. Choose colors that are closer in range rather than the high contrast of black and white. Meet Caral, one of our DIY fans, and her gorgeous Shipibo stenciled bedroom. She painted a gray accent wall in her bedroom but then stenciled the Shipibo pattern in a soothing gray. See the difference in contrast? Both looks are gorgeous but it just goes to show you how black can be flexible!
Power Broker must have had a sneak peak at Megan’s deliciously stenciled dining room. She painted her dining a color similar to Benjamin Moore’s blacktop 2135-10 and then stenciled the Casablanca pattern in a high gloss to get this high end, posh look!
Now I know you’ve probably heard the rumor that you shouldn’t paint a small space black. Looks like Andrea, from Design Your Life doesn’t listen to the rules because they painted their bathroom this daring shade and then stenciled it with the Marrakech Trellis pattern. The results? Absolutely, AH-MAZING!!
Truth is black might not be for everyone but it has stopping power so if you’re feeling adventurous or like to take home decor risks then this might be the hue for you!
