Learn How To Make An Area Rug For Under $150
Stenciling A Nursery Rug Using the Rabat Allover Stencil
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Finding the perfect area rug can be a challenge. The right color, an appealing pattern, and a price tag that won't break the piggy bank; makes this challenge near impossible. For a little bit of money, you can improve a plain area rug using stencils. It's a simple DIY project that results in a custom area rug that fits your tastes and needs. Let's take a look at how one DIY blogger used our Rabat Allover Stencil to give her rug a stylish update!
Let's visit Thao, the creative mind behind Adorkable Duo. Thao was working on putting together her nursery for her little bundle of joy. She had ordered the crib, the dresser, and glider. Next on her list was an area rug. She knew she wanted a bright green rug with a bold geometric pattern. Thao scoured the Internet but just couldn't find a rug that was the right size, the color and pattern, and didn't cost a small fortune. That's when she decided to DIY her rug using paint and a stencil! We'll get to how she did it in a minute. The first thing she did was purchase this plain white Erslev rug ($59.99) from Ikea. Then Thao browsed our website and fell in love with our Rabat Allover Stencil, a popular Moroccan pattern. With her stencil in hand she was ready to kick off her project. She also grabbed two quarts of Hidden Meadow by Behr, a latex paint. Thao placed her materials on the floor. Then she taped the stencil to the rug using blue painter's tape. She used a dense foam roller to paint the pattern. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to roll off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the stencil to bleed. After the pattern was painted, Thao would untape the stencil and reposition it until the entire rug was stenciled. Once it was complete, she stepped back to admire her crafty work. Kristin commented, "It's fun to say I sort of made this for the baby and I can go stencil crazy another time. " If you're looking for more detail on this project or to see other projects in this adorable nursery, be sure to read Adorkable Duo.
