Stencils Transform A Seemingly Boring Room Into A Fabulous Space

A fresh coat of paint and a stencil pattern are all you need to take that seemingly boring dining room and transform it into a fabulous space ready for entertaining. We'd like to introduce you to Joy and Henry, the home decor enthusiasts and DIYers behind the blog Our Lives on a Budget. The creative couple love the idea of stenciling. Joy commented, "The great thing about stencils are that the designs are directly painted onto the walls, so you can absolutely customize it to whatever color and design you would want." They were eager to try it out and seized the opportunity when a friend asked them to assist in a dining room update. The dining room was very plain and painted in a cream color (see below). Rather than stencil the entire dining room, Joy and Henry chose to paint and stencil the recessed area in the center, as well as the two vertical side panels. Joy mentions, " The recessed area in the center wall was a perfect place for us to do the stencil since it gives a splash of pattern and color without making the wall look too busy. " The first thing they did was paint the panels using Martha Stewart's metallic silver paint. Then they chose our Marrakech Trellis Allover Stencil, a very popular Moroccan pattern. Joy used blue painters tape to adhere her stencil to the wall and painted the pattern using a dense foam roller in a bright white hue. Presto Chango and there you have it folks!
