Wall Stencils Can Spruce Up An Old Garden Shed Cement Floor
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Our floor stencils are super popular right now and our trendy tile stencil patterns are an affordable way to give an old space a fresh new look. Today we’re going to share a garden shed makeover with a stenciled cement floor featuring our Jewel Tile Pattern. Come take a look…
We’d like to introduce Elicia, a creative DIYer, artist, and photographer behind Mirth and Whimsy. Elicia and her husband, Nathan, are renovating their 1910 farmhouse in Northwest Indiana. She has a stunning Instagram account (mirthandwhimsy) that we love to follow. Located on their land was an old garden shed. Here is what it looked like.
Rather than destroy the structure, Elicia wanted to revive its classic charm. She decided to hop on the floor stenciling trend and add a touch of pattern to the garden shed floor. Elicia browsed our large collection of tile stencils and selected our Jewel Tile Pattern. This beautiful pattern was inspired by a classic cement tile pattern.
The first thing Elicia did was clean the concrete floor to ensure there wasn’t any debris and then she prepped and painted it. Cleaning and prepping the floor is key to completing a painted floor that will last for years. For floor projects, we typically recommend STIX Waterbased Primer and Benjamin Moore’s Floor and Patio paint. Elicia painted her concrete floor in white. With her stencil in hand, she was ready to start stenciling! She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern in black.
After each section was complete, Elicia would un-tape the stencil and reposition so she could paint the entire garden shed floor.
Once the entire floor is stenciled, we always recommend applying a waterbased polyurethane sealer to increase durability. Once the floor was complete, Elicia added other small details like glass french doors made from louvered bifold closet doors. These individual projects provide charm and character to this adorable cottage.
Elicia had this to say about her stencil project, ” SO much satisfaction. Love how the Jewel tile Stencil turned out for our garden shed renovation. It has me thinking about doing this to the ceramic tile in the kitchen.” Not only do we think her garden shed turned out adorable but her imagery is totally magazine worthy!
We think she did an amazing job transforming this space and giving the cement floor a stenciled new look. Don’t you agree?
