Mandala Stencils Can Create Custom Wall Art On Wood
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Did you know that in just a few steps you can have a custom piece of wall art that fits right in with your home decor. Yup, a painted stencil pattern is an easy way to personalize a piece of wall art. Today we’re sharing how one DIY blogger used the Prosperity Mandala Pattern to create a custom piece of artwork. Come be inspired…
We’d like to welcome back Maria, the talented artist and interior designer behind ML Furniture Decor and one of the bloggers behind Southern Blenders. Maria asked her husband to build her a 40″ x 40″ board using some of the wood pieces she had from past projects. Here is what it looked like when it was complete.
A blank wood slate, perfect for crafting some DIY wall art. Maria gathered up her materials for the project. She used Unicorn Spit Stains in Gray, Black, Brown, and Blue.
That color combination is so pretty. To further enhance her wall art, Maria decided stenciling was the way to go. Our stencil patterns are an easy way to craft custom pieces of wall art that are eye-catching. She had our Prosperity Mandala Stencil from a previous project. The great thing about our stencils is that they are reusable. Maria had the 36 inch version of this pattern.
With her Mandala pattern in hand, Maria was ready for the fun part. She used blue painter’s tape to adhere the stencil to the wood canvas. Maria wanted the stencil design to have a bit of texture. She painted it using Artisan Enhancements in Fine Stone and VP Antico. Maria explains her painting techniques on Hometalk.
Then she coated the raised design using Southern Blender’s Metallic paints that she had purchased from The Pixie Dust Paint Company. If you are recreating this project at home, be sure to brush off extra paint so it doesn’t bleed under the stencil. The key to stenciling is using very little paint. Once one portion of the stencil was complete, Maria flipped the design to complete the Mandala on the piece of wood.
About 30 minutes the mandala stencil was dry and Maria coated her work of art using Artisan Enhancements Clear Finish. Are you ready to see how her creative project turned out? Here is her stenciled wood wall art.
Maria had this to say about her stencil project, “I am sooo happy on how this wall art turned out.” We absolutely love this project!
