Video How-To Stencil a Sisel Rug
Stenciling a Sisal rug is an easy way to transform an ordinary area rug and bring in some eye-catching decor. So to help out, Cutting Edge Stencils has put together a quick how-to video that explains the process!
In this video, Gabi shows how easy it is to transform a plain sisal rug into a masterpiece using a stencil and a large brush. This is an easy and rewarding stenciling project for any DIY enthusiast! This tutorial will be sure to help you better understand the process of painting a stencil on a Sisel rug, though, so no worries DIYers! Watch the video below!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Cutting Edge Stencils’ Interlocking stencil pattern (Shipibo Stencil used here)
Clip on stencil level
Benjamin Moore paint (shown in brown horse 2108-30)
Dense foam roller
Here’s What You Do:
First mask off the binding, the area around the rug.
Then position your stencil on the rug, and adhere it with a small piece of blue painters tape on each corner.
Pour your paint onto the foam plate and load your dense foam roller. Then offload the paint onto a paper towel by rolling it back and forth until the roller seems almost dry and the paint is evenly distributed. (Note, It might be a good idea, if you are a first time stenciler, to stencil a piece of cardboard or something disposable first to make sure you have the hang of it prior to painting your walls.)
Start stenciling your rug using your large stencil brush. Lift the stencil slightly to check the coverage. If adequate, continue painting.
Remove the stencil from the rug slowly.
Realign the stencil, the stencil aligns with itself (see the image below).
Once you’ve finished painting the pattern across the rug, its time to fill in the edges using your stencil brush (as shown in the image below).
Remove the stencil, unmask the edges of the rug and VOILA!
