A Shipibo Stenciled Kitchen Floor Featured In Woman’s Day Magazine (November Issue)
Good Morning, my DIY decorators! Are you sitting at the kitchen table with your laptop or tablet in hand, reading this post? Well if you are, then we want you to look down for a moment. No we’re not accusing you of having holes in your socks. We want to know if your kitchen floor could use a stenciled makeover. If so, then you’re going to love the latest Cutting Edge Stencils feature in the November issue of Woman’s Day Magazine. Yup, you read that right. Another magazine feature (insert screaming and happy dance here)!
We can hardly believe we have another FAB stencil mention and this time it’s in Woman’s Day Magazine, one of the most popular women’s lifestyle publications. They featured our Shipibo Allover Stencil in their November issue in a section titled Little Details. Big Style. Decorating, especially decorating for less, is a hot topic around this time of year. Our homes can sometimes be as cluttered as our days as we prep for the holidays and it can feel like every room in the home needs a makeover. But small changes to a space can have a big impact and these small changes don’t have to break the piggy bank. Sound the trumpets because we want to welcome Jessica Davis, an interior decorator and owner of Nest Studio, DIY expert and blogger behind The Eagle’s Nest. Oh and she’s also the proud stenciler of this jaw-dropping gorgeous kitchen floor.
After Jessica, her husband, Scott, and son, Bryan, 2, moved into a 1,400-square-foot house in New Jersey last fall, she began to transform it one thrifty trick at a time. While she has several tricks up her sleeve, our personal favorite happens to be featured on page 52.
You can get the full story here but let’s quickly recap her stenciled floor project. Jessica and her husband ripped out the old flooring in their home and replaced it with plywood that they painted Sherwin Williams Anew Grey. Then she scrubbed on Benjamin Moore’s Kendall Charcoal to create a linoleum look. Once the plywood was painted, she stenciled our Shipibo Allover pattern onto the floor in Benjamin Moore‘s China White. To finish it off, Jessica painted the entire floor with two coats of polyurethane to seal the design and give the beautiful floor a shiny sheen! Jessica had this to say about her project, “I’d give stenciling two thumbs up – definitely something I’d do again, especially on a floor where the impact and difference was so large.”
** Our FAV Woman’s Day Decor Tip**
Woman’s Day gave some great DIY decorating tips in the November issue. Our personal favorite is this one, “Less expensive than mosaic tile—and easy to repaint and change in the future—an allover floor stencil grounds the room and gives it style.” We can’t argue with that!
PS. If you’re loving the look of Jessica’s kitchen and aching to see more of her beautiful East coast home, then check out her home tour on Apartment Therapy titled Jessica and Scott’s East Coast Nest.
