Tone on Tone Stencils Are Soft, Subtle, And Sophisticated
Happy Friday, my stenciling friends! Cutting Edge Stencils loves the idea of stenciling in a monochromatic tone on tone finish to create a subtle and sophisticated look. We find this soft stencil treatment often results in elegant wall patterns and can instantly transform a room from blah to ooh la la. Let’s take a look at how at one.
We’d like to introduce Elisha, the avid DIYer and power tool lover behind the blog Pneumatic Addict. Elisha’s bestie, Nicki, recently bought a new house and has been working bit by bit to make it a home. Next on the list of projects was her office. The space had tall ceilings and lots of natural light. Elisha commented, “This room was the perfect candidate for a dramatic wall treatment.” Here is what it looked like before:
The first thing these bff’s did was tape off the space and paint it using Naval by Sherwin Williams in an eggshell. Then they were ready to add the dramatic wall treatment using a stencil. Elisha chose Iron Gate Allover stencil, a trendy allover pattern. She used blue painters tape to position the stencil on the panel and then painted the design using a dense foam roller.
To achieve that subtle stencil look, Elisha chose to paint the stencil using a custom mix that was 50% lighter than the base wall coat (Naval) and in a gloss.
Once the stencil was complete, they put the furniture back in place and added the perfect office accessories. Ready to see how it all turned out? Here is Nicki’s newly stenciled office space.
Elisha had this to say about the stencil project, “It looks so beautiful! Actually, while I was snapping photos, a neighbor stopped by and complimented Nicki on her “beautiful wall paper”.”
We love the subtle shimmer that the tone on tone color provides to this stencil.
