Birch Forest Allover Stencil

This is one of our favorite nature-inspired stencil designs. Serene Birch Forest brings a sense of peaceful relaxation into the room. This stunning overall stencil pattern looks great simply rolled over faux mottled background or solid background color. Very interesting effects can be achieved with shimmering metallics or glazes. Registration is built into the stencil pattern for ease of installation; simply use birch "spots" to align the stencil on all directions. Stencils are a great wallpaper alternative!

Don't worry about super perfect alignment: in the end your eye will never ever notice if it's a little bit off. We decorative pros "fudge" allover patterns all the time! The walls in most houses are often not straight, so some "fudging" while stenciling helps a lot.

Since it is a "reverse" stencil design, you should start with the lighter background which will become the color of your birch trunks, and apply the darker stenciling color, which will become the space between branches.

You can stencil with acrylic or latex paint, stencil creams, fabric paint or glaze. Use a foam roller or stencil brush. If you want nice crisp edges, please use spray adhesive (Elmer's seems to be the best) to ensure this. The trick with stenciling is to take care not to over-load your roller or brush with paint and not to press hard on a roller while stenciling. I personally prefer just to use blue painter's tape instead of adhesive, but for beginners I would suggest using spray adhesive.
