Stencils and Color Combinations to Steal These Pottery Barn Teen Looks!
Happy Friday, my DIY decorating friends! Cutting Edge Stencils is curious if your teen has been begging you for a room makeover? We bet you recently received the Spring 2014 Pottery Barn Teen catalog in the mail. How did we know? Well, those bright colors, fun patterns , and home decor eye candy even had us skipping back from the mailbox. We were eagerly planning all of our next purchases when we noticed the $$$ noted next to each of those items. It was enough to knock our stenciled socks off! And that’s when our creative light bulbs went off! In the past we’ve showed you how to replicate your favorite West Elm and Ethan Allen decor using stencils. What if we did the same thing to spruce up your teens space? Today we’re going to show you how to use our stencils and Benjamin Moore paint colors to recreate some fabulous Pottery Barn Teen looks!
Stolen Item No. 1: Chevron Pillow Sham and Heart Shaped Pin Board
We can totally see what all the stripe hype is about after catching a glimpse of these turquoise-colored pillow shams! And as if that’s not enough, our heart goes pitter patter for the bold black and white polka dot pinboard mirror.
STEAL THE LOOK: Freshen the look of your teen’s bedroom with just a couple of decor accessories. Do they love the stripey pillows but you’re not too fond of the $32 price tag on EACH one? We’ve got your back on this one! Buy a plain white pillow sham. Some of our fans have had success at finding inexpensive pillow shams at Ikea. STEAL THE LOOK: Don’t have $208 to shell out for wallpaper? We can help you get that look for a whole lot less. Use our Chevron Allover Stencil ($32.95) in soft gray like revere pewter HC-172. Then recreate those bold desk accessories using household boxes, think cereal boxes. Paint them black and then stencil our Polka Dot pattern ($29.95) in a bright white hue like Benjamin Moore’s simply white OC-117.
Stolen Look No. 3: Zebra Pillow Sham and Zebra Pinboard
Pottery Barn Teen has a great selection of pretty patterns and this racy Zebra stripe is one of our favorites. It’s stylish, cool, and adds instant ambiance to any teen bedroom. But a zebra pinboard can cost $249. Yikes!
STEAL THE LOOK: Have no fear, because stealing this look with a stencil is going to be easy peasy! The best part about recreating this room is it only takes one stencil to accomplish multiple DIY projects. Purchase plain white pillow shams and then stencil our Zebra Allover pattern in a classic, black hue like Benjamin Moore’s jet black 2120-10. Hold onto the stencil and paint because we have a second project in mind. Spice up your teen’s pinboard with that zippy animal stripe.
Stolen Look No. 4: Flower Wall Art and Chevron Rug
The room will have a whole new feel just by adding some fresh wall art and a colorful rug! Unfortunately the $249 price tag on the wall art can be a real wallet drainer. Not to mention the $499 sticker on the rug. Ouch!
STEAL THE LOOK: Don’t let these prices get you down. These projects are very simple and totally doable. Buy a plain white or off-white rug. Some of our fans have had success at finding inexpensive rugs at Ikea. Then paint our trendy Chevron Allover Stencil ($32.95) in Benjamin Moore’s pink starburst 2004-40 to get a similar look. Paint a piece of canvas board in a sunny shade of yellow, banana yellow 2022-40 and then stencil our Allium Gladiator Flower pattern in white. Pop it into a white frame and there you go, a fresh new space!
