Wall Stencils Can Spruce Up An Old Ceramic Bathroom Floor
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Our trendy tile stencil patterns are an affordable way to give an old ceramic floor a fresh new look. Today we’re going to share how you can easily makeover an old ceramic tile floor using our Jewel Tile Pattern. Come take a look…
We’d like to introduce Elizabeth, a creative DIYer and Hometalk contributor. Elizabeth loves completing DIY projects and tends to share them on Hometalk and her facebook page, Creating Rustic Charm. Lately, Elizabeth has been tackling her bathroom. It was a dated and dull space. Here is what it looked like before its makeover.
Elizabeth couldn’t afford to rip up the floor and replace it with pricey tile so she searched for a DIY option. That’s when a friend suggested stenciling the floor. Elizabeth said, “I couldn’t resist the challenge and I LOVE stencils, so what the heck, after a little research, I jumped in.” She browsed our large collection of tile stencils and selected our Jewel Tile Pattern. This beautiful pattern was inspired by a classic cement tile pattern.
The first thing Elizabeth did was clean the ceramic floor to ensure there wasn’t any debris and then she prepped and painted it. Cleaning and prepping the floor is key to completing a painted floor that will last for years. For floor projects, we typically recommend STIX Waterbased Primer and Benjamin Moore’s Floor and Patio paint. Elizabeth painted her ceramic floor in white. With her stencil in hand, she was ready to start stenciling! She used blue painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern in black.
After each section was complete, Elizabeth would un-tape the stencil and reposition so she could paint the entire bathroom floor.
Once the entire floor is stenciled, Elizabeth decided to add a solid border around the patterned tile.
She painted the black border with the same paint she used for the stencil.
After her painted bathroom floor was dry, Elizabeth applied three coats of a waterbased polyurethane sealer to increase durability. She completed several more DIY projects to give this bathroom its finished look. You can read all about her creative projects on her Hometalk page. Let’s take a look at Elizabeth’s pretty new bathroom space.
Elizabeth had this to say about her stencil project, ” Again, this is a super easy project and I would do it again in a heartbeat! The stencil from Cutting Edge was an awesome stencil to work with and truly, the floor looks fabulous in person.”
