What is the recommended method of cleaning the stencil during and after the job is complete? I use interior latex paint and found it sticks to the stencil and I cannot get the paint off so I have to throw it away. Help please this is getting expensive.
Hi Spring Whitmer Smith!
Thank you for your comment. Please take a look at the following video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ValnjCS3ghM
Typically you clean the stencil with water and a stiff or a soft bristle brush. You want to be sure that you are laying the stencil on a firm surface, otherwise you risk damaging the stencil.
The key to helping the stencil last is to not let paint dry on to the stencil. So you want to clean the stencil when you notice enough paint build up where it begins to interfere with the integrity of the design onto the wall. You also want to clean the stencil when you are going to stop with the project, even if it is for an hour or two break. Once the paint begins to dry it will harden the stencil and lessen the flexibility, which does result in faster wear and tear. You want to clean the stencil as soon as you are done with the project.
If you are using spray adhesive please note that you are working with a glue which when it dries it will lessen the flexibility of the stencil. This is normal for glue to do.
