Cutting Edge Stencils Shares Beautiful Bookshelf Makeover Using the Charlotte Allover Stencil
Good morning, my stenciling friends! Cutting Edge Stencils hopes you had a chance to vote for your favorite craft project in the Do Something Crafty Challenge using Chevron alphabet stencils. Today we are sharing one of our favorite types of stencil projects, a fabulous before and after. Who doesn’t love a good furniture makeover? From trash to treasure, these makeovers are inspirational. Come take a look.
We’d like to welcome back Bonnie, the clever DIY gal behind the blog Revolutionaries. Bonnie is no stenciling newbie. We’re sure you’ve seen her other stenciled projects like this Paisley Allover stenciled drum table.
Then she reused that same stencil to create this cutie, a DIY Paisley Allover stenciled cedar chest.
Well Bonnie is back at it again and this time she’s reusing her Charlotte Allover Stencil to transform an old bookshelf. We’re not sure what we love more, seeing folks reuse their stencils for multiple DIY projects or a fabulous makeover story.
Bonnie had a basic wooden bookshelf in her craft space. It was functional but lackluster. Here is a shot of it before:
One day she decided to remove it from the space and paint it. She sanded down the entire shelf and painted it Quietude by Sherwin Williams, which is a beautiful light, minty blue hue. Once it was painted, Bonnie felt a pretty pattern would enhance its look. Since she already had the Charlotte Allover Stencil on hand, the lace-like pattern made perfect sense. Bonnie removed the shelves from the bookcase. Then she measured to find the center so that the stencil was positioned in the middle of the bookcase. Bonnie used painters tape to hold the stencil in place and painted the delicate pattern in white acrylic craft paint.
After the center was painted, she repositioned her stencil around the back of the bookshelf until the entire panel was painted. Once the stenciling was dry, Bonnie went over all of it with a sander. Her goal was to have a bit of a distressed look in the end. Ready to see how it all turned out? Here it is!
Here is a close up of the pretty pattern.
Bonnie said, “I love Cutting Edge Stencils so very much! :)” Awe, we love your stenciled creations!
