You’re clearly painting over the entire stencil in the second photo, but in the third the center space is blank so you can paint the three other colors. How is that?

Yes in the second photo we are painting over the whole stencil. In the third photo, the circles that are empty are showing where the registration marks are and how to line up the next stencil. Hope this helps!
Actually no, I mean the interior part of the feather where the other three colors are painted. The second photo gives a very unrealistic idea of how difficult it will be to paint and maneuver around the tiny dividing lines between the colors. I wish this tutorial had been more honest.
Hi Fleurdelivres, In the second photo we painted the entire stencil blue using the dense foam roller. Then in picture four, we went back in with a small stencil brush to add the additional colors. The additional colors were painted on top of the blue. Hope this helps.
