Thanks for sharing! It was fun and easy to do!
Hi Jess!
Thank YOU for sharing! We love how you took an allover pattern and made it into beautiful wall art! =]
Yes I would love to stencil on a canvas. I bought the supplies I needed. My problem is I am trying to stencil over a previously used canvas. I have practiced on a different canvas first, and the paint bleeds thru. Any hints on how to stencil my artwork on a previously used canvas. I was told to cover up the old print, to buy Rust-O-leum #2. The stencil I bought was Ratan. Looked easy, until I practiced. Any helpful steps would be appreciated.
Hi Rhonda,
Not too sure about the Rustolem we haven’t used it….But if we were doing our own project, we would definitely prime the old canvas first (spray primer is SUPER easy!) let it dry overnight. Then do two coats of your base color or even three. Let the layers dry about 15-30 minutes between each coat. Make sure your base is either Matt or Eggshell finish. You DO NOT want anything glossy or semi gloss because the stencil paint will not seep through the glossy paint and you will have a lot of bleed. Also, when you stencil, use less paint than you think you will need. Go super lightly ….let dry and repeat :) Hope this helps!
I am slightly confused about the last step! I understand you put the stencil back on, you applied the modge podge on the stencil, then you placed the gold leaf on top of the modge podge/stencil? I am assuming the gold leaf is a sheet (ive never used it :)) and then you remove the stencil? Thanks!
Hi Gin,
We don’t have much experience with the modge podge ourselves and so would recommend that you visit Jess’ blog here: http://www.domicile37.com/2015/05/crushing-art-cutting-edge-stencil.html
Here you will be able to ask her questions about this project as she would know best! :) I apologize we were unable to provide further assistance.
I really like the idea of stenciling roll down window shades. Gives you privacy and nice art work instead of a sad empty space
Hi Jackie,
We agree! Adding a stencil to anything will add a special touch to a room and liven it up :)
Omggg
Love the design
And where is the table from?
Sooooo adorable
Hi Sophia,
This project is not ours so we are not sure where the table is from. I do apologize. -Erika
