Spruce Up Your Deck With Stencils

Stenciling A Faux Outdoor Rug With The Perfect Catch Stencil

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! Labor Day typically marks as a farewell to Summer.  Hopefully you plan to celebrate the final warm weather moments outdoors.  If you’re looking to make some last minute deck updates with a minimal budget then we have the perfect idea for you.  All it takes is some paint and one of our stencils to give your outdoor space a whole new look.  Let’s take a look at a deck makeover featuring a faux outdoor rug using one of our popular nautical stencils, the Perfect Catch Allover Stencil.

We’d like to introduce Heather, the creative DIYer behind the blog The Heathered Nest.  Heather had a giant deck in her backyard that she claimed was ugly!

It was a simple deck but it lacked the personality and functionality that Heather desired for her outdoor space. She removed the old finish and the railings and repainted it in Cabot’s Seacoast Gray. Heather shares how she has always loved the look of outdoor rugs but they are just not practical for her space since they could easily get dirty and she doesn’t have the time to lug them in an out of storage.  Stencils are a great alternative to an outdoor rug because it allows you to have that outdoor pattern you crave and they are easy to apply!  Heather selected the the Perfect Catch Allover Stencil, a nautical rope inspired pattern.

With our Perfect Catch Allover Stencil, pattern in hand, Heather was ready to go.  She measured and taped the space where she intended to paint the pattern. Heather stenciled the Nautical rope-inspired pattern in a beautiful cerulean blue. She used painters tape to hold the pattern in place and painted it using a dense foam roller.

After all the stenciling was complete, Heather finished several other DIY projects.  She hung some pendant lights, added decorated accent pillows, and purchased a fire pit.  You can read all about her budget friendly outdoor deck projects on her blog, The Heathered Nest.  Ready to see how it all turned out?  Here is Heather’s stenciled outdoor rug.

Doesn’t the Perfect Catch Allover Stencil look so pretty in this space? We think so! Heather had this to say about her stencil project,” I love the results. They add some color, and pattern, and help break up the larger spaces into more manageable and cozy areas.”
