Stencil Patterns Can Give Old Wooden Chairs A Vibrant New Look!
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends. A furniture makeover can be a quick and fun project. All it takes is a little bit of paint, our furniture stencils, and a dash of creativity to give old furniture a fun new look. We are excited to share how one creative blogger gave a wooden chair a whimsical new look using the Tribal Arrows Stencil. Come take a look!
We’d like to introduce Shelly, the creative DIYer behind the blog 100 Things 2 Do. Shelly had joined a local auction group and was super happy when she landed these three wooden chairs for about $25. Here is what the chairs looked like before their makeover.
They were dated and worn but Shelly saw a ton of potential in them. She called them, “grungy, grimy but solid wood and in one piece.” Shelly gave two of the chairs a quick update and the third chair she decided she would, “let the wild-child in me run amok with colour” We love fun projects like this! Shelly is a huge fan of our stencils. She had previously used our stencil patterns in her playground makeover. So she browsed our collections to find the right pattern for her whimsical chair makeover and landed on the Tribal Arrows Allover Stencil.
With her stencils in hand, Shelly was ready to start her stenciling project. She painted the wooden chairs using Benjamin Moore’s Arborcoat in Eccentric Lime, Gypsy Pink, Poolside Blue. Then she positioned the Tribal Arrows pattern in various spots on the chair. She painted the arrow stencil design in the same vibrant colors using a stencil brush.
If you’re trying to recreate this, pour your paint onto a plate or paint tray. Dip your stencil brush into the paint and then brush off the excess paint onto your folded paper towel until the brush looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge. Painter’s tape can help hold the stencil in place.
Let’s move onto the big reveal! Here is Shelly’s wooden chair!
Shelly had this to say about her project, ” Bright and bold colours, and an exterior stain – this might make an eye-catching plant stand in your garden. This painted chair was fun to experiment with, and I think it turned out pretty cute.” We absolutely love the new look for Shelly’s wooden chair!
