Cutting Edge Stencils Is Featured In This Old House Magazine’s April Issue!
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! We just got the latest issue of our favorite DIY publication, This Old House Magazine, and we were overjoyed to see our Indian Inlay Stencil in the DIY Dare Challenge! Before you rush off to buy the latest issue, let’s talk about the details of this recent stencil sighting.
What is the DIY Dare Challenge?
This my friends is the ultimate home decor challenge. DIYers just like yourselves are challenged to create something out of scraps. Then snap a photo and send it along using the hashtag, #diydare.
Dress(er) Up Using the Indian Inlay Stencil Kit
In the a section titled, DIY Dare Challenge on page 64, it features a creative furniture makeover project using our Indian Inlay Stencil. Michelle Brunner (senior editor) and Tisha Leung (design editor) were paired up for this project. The creative duo was handed a bottle of Modern Masters metallic paint and an old dresser. They quickly decided that to recreate the expensive bone inlay pattern using a stencil. Michelle said, “It’ll be superfast and consistent.”
The first thing they did was coat the dresser with primer. They used a roller to coat the dresser in Zinsser’s Shellac Primer.
Once the dresser was primed, they painted it in navy blue using a latex paint from Behr.
Then they were ready for the fun part, stenciling! Michelle and Tisha used a repositionable spray adhesive to hold the stencil in place but we typically recommend blue painter’s tape. Then they painted the Indian Inlay Stencil pattern in a white metallic paint by Modern Masters.
After the dresser was completely stenciled, they added white flower knobs which were purchased from Amazon.
The result? A dresser with a beautiful bone inlay look for a fraction of the price. Tisha had this to say about the stencil project, ” An amazing transformation with just a little paint.”
