In fact, we have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to ideas and inspiration on how to incorporate metallic elements into your living space and add lots of flair!
The 411 on Metallics…
There’s no doubt about it that metallic stenciled spaces are down right glamorous. The metallic finish can give the stencil a distinctive and dramatic flair. A vibrant metallic sheen will add character to your stencil and liven up any room. When it comes to choosing a metallic paint, we really like FolkArt metallic paint. You can find this brand very inexpensively in the craft sections of Michaels or Joanne’s. If you’re doing a larger project then consider Benjamin Moore who also offers a very nice metallic paint.
Let’s oooh and aaah over these metallic stenciled spaces….
You may remember us talking about Katherine yesterday. She’s the self-proclaimed interior design junkie and blogger behind KM Decor. Katherine had the standard builder-grade bathroom in her home. While there’s nothing drastically wrong with it, Katherine has admitted her passion for interior design and felt compelled to give it a makeover. Katherine had selected a warm gray with a brown undertone as her base color in the powder room. Then chose to use the Moroccan Dream stencil in a metallic (Champagne by Folk Art) paint color. The sheen of the metallic combined with the Moroccan design take the powder room to a designer-like level. The result? A truly GLAMOROUS space!
Does that fab metallic look have you drooling for more? Well look no further! I want you to meet Anna, the crafty diyer and blogger behind Ask Anna Moseley. Anna had fallen in love with and purchased the Moroccan Dream Stencil but wasn’t quite sure where to use it. Then one day while she was rearranging furniture, it all clicked! There was a simple wall that would make the perfect accent wall. Her base wall color was already a grey so Anna chose a darker metallic version of her base coat. Anna says, “I am in love with my new living room accent wall! I am also in love with Cutting Edge Stencils!” Awe! We’re blushing from the compliment! We’re kind of crushing on Anna’s new accent wall also!

Hello,
I looked at the Benjamin moore metallic paint line and its either eggshell or semi gloss finish. I was advised to use flat paint to avoid bleeding and other issues.
Hi Sharon,
As long as you do not have textured walls you are welcome to use either finish. The safest choice to go with is the eggshell finish, just remember to off-load your dense foam roller and that it is dry to the touch. This is the key to avoid bleeding on regular flat surface wall :)
Love the metallic! Even better silver cats all over my wall!
Hi Debra,
Please send us some pictures of your metallic cats!! :)
Thanks in advance…..
how many bottles of metallic paint did you buy?
Hi Stacy, It really depends on the space that you plan on stenciling. For smaller spaces, craft paint is fine but if you’re looking to stencil a larger area then you may want to check out Benjamin Moore’s metallic paint line. Thanks!
Hello! I am very excited to stencil my powder room wall in a few weeks. My question is, should the base paint be an eggshell or can I use a semigloss? It is a fairly small space, I am going to stencil the long wall across from the sink (48 in cabinet) and toilet, and leave the remaining walls plain. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
Hi Catherine,
the base paint on the wall for best results we like to recommend the flat finish, for stenciling we like to recommend flat, eggshell, or semi-gloss finish. The key to working with eggshell and semi-gloss and basically any type of paint with stenciling is making sure you do not use too much paint. Make sure to always offload the paint onto a paper towel and have the brush or roller be dry to the touch. You are welcome to use eggshell and semigloss for the wall but please do be aware that this may cause bleeding. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.
What were the colors used here? Thanks
Hi Tami,
The colors used for the bathroom were:
Wall: Amazon Stone by Behr
Stencil: Champagne by Folk Art
The colors used for the living room were unfortunately not provided and so we do not know the colors used. We do apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Hope this helps!
