A DIY Stenciled Bench Makeover Using the Marrakech Trellis Stencil
Good morning, my DIY friends. The birds are chirping, the weather is warming and it’s a sure sign that Spring is on the way. Along with the new season will also come a fair share of outdoor flea markets and yard sales. Have you ever driven past a yard sale and spotted a gorgeous piece of furniture that needed a little, ok a lot, of TLC? Rather than pass up that piece, Cutting Edge Stencils wants you to snatch that item up. We have a fun flea market makeover today that will show you how paint and a stencil can make a huge difference. Let’s take a look…
We’d like to welcome back Melody, the creative DIYer behind the blog My Passion For Decor. On her blog she notes that, “What some might consider a piece of furniture ready for the trash heap, I see an ugly duckling that can be transformed into a beautiful swan. ” So when she stumbled upon a dirty little bench at a local flea market, she could see the pearl within the ugly oyster.
The wooden bench was in rough shape but it had lots of potential, especially with this DIYer! On her blog, she explains how she removed the clumps of paint and sanded it down. Then she painted the base using Crushed Tea by American Paint Company and Faded Burlap on the top.
After it was dry, Melody took a good look at it and commented, ” I wanted the bench to be special and the color combo was pretty and all, but BORING. To add some WOW factor to the bench I used my Cutting Edge Stencils Marrakech Trellis stencil on the top of the bench.” She stenciled the Moroccan pattern using the same white she used on the base of the bench, Crushed Tea by American Paint Company. She used painters tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint the pattern.
After the stencil was complete, Melody applied a soft clear wax to seal everything. Ready to see how it all turned out?
She had this to say about her stencil project, ” The top looked like old, aged wood and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out!”
Melody says, ” I had originally thought I would sell this bench, but now I don’t think I can part with it! Now I just need to find a place for this beauty.” We could totally see why she would want to keep this one!
