Stenciled & Framed

Create Simple Wall Art by Framing A Stenciled Wall

Home all my DIY artists  are having a stencil-rific Friday!  So earlier this week,  Cutting Edge Stencils posted about Stenciling to Inspire where we used phrase stencils to create canvas art and yesterday we gave you a video tutorial on how to get that look.   Well no sooner did we post about stenciled art, did we catch this stenciled stunner painted by our Facebook fan, Yvonne…

GORGEOUS, right?!  Now you know we LOVE a good stencil but do you know what really caught our eye with this piece?  The fact that she took the time frame out her stenciled saying on her wall really makes all the difference.  We think it’s a super hot home decor idea!  So began a  little quest to find some other awesome examples of how you could frame your stencil to give it the ultimate WOW factor.

First we stumbled upon this stenciled beaut.  Stacy, the crafty diy blogger behind Not Just a Housewife, stenciled her hallway using this fab polka dot stencil and then added this gorgeous antique white frame to really make a statement.

Next we found stenciled stunner on Our Pinteresting Family.  Meet Megan, the crafty DIY and Pinterest extraordinaire who writes about her daily Pinterest adventures on her blog, Our Pinteresting Family.  Megan had a friend who needed some wall art to fill a blank wall in her new home.  After searching on Pinterest she came across an idea to create her own using a stencil.  Using our Marrakech Trellis Stencil and a frame she purchased at AC Moore, she crafted this gorgeous yet inexpensive piece of wall art.

So are you completely smitten with the idea of framing your wall stencil now?  We thought so!  Before you get started, Yvonne gave us some helpful tips that she learned along the wall.
Framed Stenciled Walls make inexpensive and gorgeous looking diy wall art! http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/home-is-wall-quote-stencil.html
1.  She used the clip-on stencil level to line up the stencil on the wall and secured it with painters tape.
2. Yvonne told us how she loves to re-use and recycle materials for projects so she used some leftover semi-gloss wall paint that she had in other areas of her house.  This had it’s pros and cons.  While it makes coordinating the colors in the space so much easier, it was also more challenging painting with a semi-gloss paint because it tended to have a little more bleed.
3. She found it beneficial to offloaded excess paint on her paint brush onto the paper towel before she stenciled.  This helped to reduce some of the bleed.
4.  For touch-up she used her base wall coat after she completed the stencil to clean up the lines.
5. Her and her husband created a custom frame from left over molding and painted it black to match the design.  You could just as easily purchase a frame from a craft store like Michaels.

This is what it will look like when it’s done- AH-MAZING!!!

OH my heavens I’m learning so much again. Haven’t used stencils too often except for my signs. I have many stencils in different themes, sizes, ideas, etc. I can’t make myself get rid of them. I’ll be looking at them differently to see what I can do now. I’ll buy from Cutting edge also for more up to date stencils but my budget is very limited. I’ll be looking at all the projects on the blog for ideas in the mean time. So glad I found your blog and web site.
