Stencil A Très Chic Table With The French Poem Pattern

Stencils Can Create DIY Custom Furniture

Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils fans.  Do you feel like coffee tables or end tables are a dime a dozen? Not so fast! A stenciled table is an easy way to add standout style to your space.  A dash of unexpected color and pattern will certainly pair fashion with function in your room.  You can create your own one-of-a-kind piece with furniture stencils from Cutting Edge Stencils.  Today we’re going to share two stenciled table ideas featuring our French Poem Allover Stencil.

We’d like to introduce Taylor, one of the creative DIYers behind the blog TayRose Design. Taylor had recently purchased a sofa table at an auction and she thought it was perfect candidate for a stencil makeover. After browsing the website, Taylor fell in love with our French Poem Allover Stencil.  She sanded down the top of the table and then wiped the dust off.  Taylor painted the top of the table using Cheesecake from Country Chic Paints, a warm cream color.  Once the paint was dry, she was ready to stencil. Taylor used painter’s tape to hold the stencil in place and a dense foam roller to paint on the script pattern in Country Chic Paints’ Dark Roast. To complete the look she painted the legs of the table in the same dark brown hue and then brushed on a gold metallic creme. The final step included applying a natural wax for protection. Taylor commented, ” I love how the French Poem Stencil gives enough of a pattern but doesn’t feel too busy and can be decorated  easily. ”

Next we’d like to introduce Tammy, a creative fan from Hometalk.  Tammy found this wooden coffee table at Habitat Restore.  Based on the decorative details on the side of the table, she knew this was perfect piece to stencil with the French Poem pattern.  Tammy decided to paint it using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old Ochre.  After the creamy white paint was dry, she stenciled the top of the table using the typography pattern in Annie Sloan’s graphite.  Tammy used painter’s tape to hold the stencil in place while painting the pattern using a dense foam roller. When the stencil was complete, she gave the table a coat of wax for protection.  We think it looks stunning!

  • Both tables are beautiful, but it would be nice to know what protection finish ‘Tammy’ put on her table – specifically because it’s outside.

    Hi Denise,

If you read her blog post here: http://www.hometalk.com/8809882/habitat-restore-coffee-table-gets-a-french-connection

You will see she used a few coats of clear wax. I don’t know if a sealer was used as it was not mentioned. But if you go to your local paint store they can definitely recommend a sealer for your project!

    Hope this helps!

  • Thank you for your reply and yes it did :)
