Paint-A- Pillow Kits Easily Create DIY Accent Pillows
Good morning, my pillow painting friends. How are those living room accent pillows looking? Wait, you have no accent pillows or are they so lackluster you wish you didn’t have accent pillows? Either way Cutting Edge Stencils is here to help. We’d like to welcome back our sister company, Paint-A-Pillow. For those that missed it, we introduced Paint-A-Pillow here but to give you a quick refresher, it’s an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create your own designer accent pillows in a snap. Come take a look at today’s inspirational pillow project.
We’d like to introduce Michele, the clever crafter behind The Scrap Shoppe Blog. We know that Michele loves crafting so we asked her if she’d like to try one of our new Paint-A-Pillow kits. After looking over the website, she jumped at the chance! Michele’s living room is gray with navy and yellow accents so she was excited to be able to customize her pillows to match her current decor. She ordered the Birch Forest kit along with an extra pillow cover, Tribe Stencil pattern, and Antique Silver Studs. Are you curious as to how it all turned out? Michele comments in her post, “What do you think of my new pillows? I am pretty much infatuated with them! And can you believe… I painted them? No seriously!.” Here is what she created with her pillow stencil kit:
We agree these are gorgeous! Now let’s talk about how you could easily recreate these eye-catching pillow covers.
Michele excitedly opened her box to see that her kit included a stencil, pillow cover, pillow insert, fabric paint, and painting tools. Basically everything she needed to create a custom accent pillow. We love super easy DIY projects, don’t you?
Michele opened the contents of the kit in her craft space and began stenciling.
She poured her fabric paint into a foam tray. Michele had chosen the Birch Forest pattern because she loves the idea of bringing a little nature indoors. She said, “I cannot even tell you how much this stencil appeals to me.” Next she used a dense foam roller to paint the tree-inspired pattern in navy blue. If you’re recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the roller with paint. Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Michele peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and cleaned off the stencil in the sink. Then she was ready to stencil her second accent pillow. For her second pillow she chose the Tribe Stencil, a zippy chevron inspired pattern. For this pattern, Michele chose to paint it in Goldenrod and navy.
To complete her Tribe stenciled accent pillow, Michele added Antique Silver Studs. Ready to see how it all turned out? Michele had this to say about her stencil project, “My husband didn’t believe at first that I had painted these pillow covers. He thought they were store bought! Even after feeling them. That’s pretty awesome, you guys!”
