Stencil Design on a Budget
Designer stencils are such a great alternative to expensive designer wallpaper! Cutting Edge Stencils is thrilled to have teamed up with Kathy Peterson! She is a TV celebrity, author, design expert and syndicated columnist. Together, we created a versatile stencil collection which is complete with geometric, organic and classical motifs that work with any decor and are a much more affordable option than wallpaper. There are endless decorating ideas when it comes to the Kathy Peterson’s stencil collection and below is a tutorial on how we used the Vines Allover stencil in our craft room to show you just one. Enjoy!
Stencil Supplies: What You’ll Need
This designer wallpaper look doesn’t require much. Here is what you’ll need to make this decorating idea your own:
- Kathy Peterson Vines Allover stencil
- Stencil Clip-on Level
- Stencil Brush
- Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue (background color), Cabot Trail (stencil color)
- Paint Can Opener
- Blue Painters Tape
- Dense foam roller
- Styrofoam plate
- Paper Towels
Place the Stencil
Slide your stencil clip-on level on your stencil (make sure to follow the instructions that are included). We recommend starting your stencil pattern in the top left corner of your wall as long as there is an uninterrupted vertical column from the ceiling to the floor. When you see that the stencil is level, place it with your blue painters tape.
Stencil Alignment
You can see above how to align your Vines Allover stencil. Following our how to stencil instructions, continue down and across your feature wall.
Stenciling Edges and Corners
Once you have stenciled the bulk of your wall, use the top part to complete the top edge and fill in the corners. Refer to the video tutorial below for lots of great details on stenciling corners and edges!
Designer Walls with Stencils
We love our revamped craft room! No more staring at a blank wall. What is great about having used Kathy Peterson’s designer Vines Allover stencil instead of wallpaper is that we could really customize the colors to be exactly what we wanted. Also, if in a few years we decide to move the craft room elsewhere, the walls can be repainted in no time with a new color and a different designer stencil to match the decor of the new space. Stencils are a great way to get the high end design of wallpaper without breaking the bank.
Everyone Loves the New Space!
Even our cat Lucy loves the new room! She settled in right away!
