Paint-A- Pillow Creates Designer Accent Pillows In A Snap
Good morning, my craft friends. Despite the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, Cutting Edge Stencils wants you to take a minute to kick back and relax. Do you have a special hideaway or nook in your home? It doesn’t have to be a large space but it should be personalized and one of the easiest ways to customize your hideaway is with a DIY accent pillow. We’d like to welcome back our sister company, Paint-A-Pillow. It’s an innovative stenciling kit that will allow you to create your own designer accent pillows in a snap. Let’s take a look at today’s inspirational pillow project.
We’d like to introduce Lauryn, the creative DIYer behind the blog The Vintage Mom. Lauryn has used Cutting Edge Stencils for several stencil projects so when we offered her a chance to try Paint-A-Pillow, she jumped at it. She recently moved into a new home and painted her bedroom. Now it’s decorating time and this normally decisive gal struggles with decorating choices. Inside the bedroom is a nook with a large window and a space for chair. Lauryn is setting it up as a reading space. She said, “Of course on this chair I picture a pillow. A gorgeous patterned pillow that brings out the colors in the space and adds a little creativity at the same time.” Lauryn ordered the Antico Paint-A-Pillow kit along with several fabric paints. We’re going to give you a quick glimpse of her gorgeous stenciled accent pillow and then we’ll fill you in on all the juicy details!
Lauryn was so excited to receive her kit in the mail especially since it included everything she needed to make an accent pillow. She comments that there was “No set up required.” The box opens up with everything ready to go. All she had to do was lift the accessory box out of the kit and start painting!
Lauryn read through the instructions that were included in the kit.
For this project, Lauryn chose to mix turquoise and neutral gray together to make a custom color. We have a Custom Color Chart on our site that makes creating these unique hues easy to do. Make sure to stir the paint thoroughly with a stirring stick and mix enough paint for your entire project.
For this project, Lauryn painted the lace-like pattern using a dense foam roller.
** If you’re recreating this at home, be careful not to overload the roller with paint. Roll off the excess paint onto a folded paper towel until the roller looks almost dry. The key to stenciling is using as little paint as possible. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed and smudge.
Once the entire pillow cover was painted, Lauryn peeled back the metal tabs holding the stencil in place and cleaned off the stencil in the sink. When the pillow cover was dry, she stuffed the pillow inserts inside and set it in her reading nook! Here is another look at this lovely accent pillow.
