How To Make DIY Coasters Using Christmas Stencil Patterns
Good morning, my Cutting Edge Stencils friends! This Holiday season entertain your guests with a little bit of stenciled style. For something so small, drink coasters make a big impact. Our DIY stenciled coasters are fun, easy, and super inexpensive to craft. All it takes is a dash of merriment and your favorite card size stencil to make this festive item. Let’s take a look at this easy project.
Erika, our in-house craft guru, decided to put her jolly touch on a set of DIY Christmas coasters. She scooped up plain white tiles for sixteen cents each at Home Depot. She placed the tiles on her crafting table and started the project. She coated the tiles with STIX primer in white. This would help create the perfect foundation for her stencil.
When the primer was dry, Erika painted the tiles using Benjamin Moore ben paint in Ladybug Red 1322.
Now Erika was ready for the fun part, stenciling! For this project, Erika wanted to use a combination of our card size Christmas Stencils. She chose to use our small Mittens Card Stencil and Joy Card Stencil.
To help keep the stencils in place, Erika used Sticky Note Spray adhesive on the back of them.
Erika let the spray adhesive tack up on the back of the stencil and then placed it on the painted tile. She used a four inch dense foam roller to paint the little mitten pattern in Benjamin Moore Navajo White paint.
Erika made sure she rolled off any excess paint on a piece of paper towel. Too much paint will cause the design to bleed. Once the entire design was painted, Erika lifted the stencil back to reveal the pattern.
When all four coasters were stenciled, she used a hot glue gun to attach a piece of felt to the bottom of the tile and applied a waterbased Varethane polyurethane to the top to protect her design.
Erika placed her coasters on the end table. Merry and bright is how we’d describe Erika’s cute stenciled coasters.
These cute and festive coasters would also make a great DIY gift for the Holidays. Simply personalize your coasters with your favorite color and card size stencil. Wahla! You’ll have a handcrafted gift in minutes!
